The Yorkville Public Library (YPL) has been serving our community since 1915. We provide a wide variety of services, including physical, electronic, and technology services for children, adults, organizations, and businesses.
YPL has a growing collection of over 73,000 books, periodicals, graphic novels, DVDs, Blu-Rays, CDs, and audiobooks on both CD and Playaway. We participate in multiple levels of Interlibrary Loan (ILL). If we don’t have an item here, chances are we can obtain it through our consortium or WorldCat at little or no cost to our patrons. We also have a Library of Things, allowing patrons to borrow non-book items such as puzzles, board games, rubber stamps, projectors, some tools, and more.
Our library features four small-group study rooms, the large Michelle Pfister Meeting Room, a Quiet Reading Room, a Genealogy Room (with a microfilm reader), and a Memorial Garden. Throughout the building, we offer comfortable seating, work areas with tables and chairs, and public computers.
We provide access to E-Books, E-Audiobooks, and video streaming through Boundless, Libby, and Inkie.org, as well as databases, including EBSCO, Ancestry Library Edition, Family Search, and Illinois Legal Aid.
Our technology services include PrairieCat Mobile, a mobile App that allows our patrons to manage their library accounts from anywhere, as well as free 1GB WiFi, wireless printing, 3-D Printing with TinkerCad, scanning and faxing stations.
We offer a variety of adult and youth programming, both in person and virtually. Adult programming includes monthly special topic presentations; creative programs like Threads & More (a fabric arts group), the Creative Writing Group (for people who are passionate about words), and Dabblers (our adult painting classes); social programs like Movie Mondays, Dungeons & Dragons, and Roaming Readers; adult education programs like our ELL classes, Computer Basics for Seniors, Healthy Cooking, Cake Decorating, and weekly Chair Yoga classes; along with five adult book clubs (Men’s Book Club, Horror Book Club, Psychological Thriller Book Club, Books & Cooks Book Club, and Lunch Bunch Book Club). We have an abundance of youth programming for children and teens of all ages, including Baby Lapsit, Tots and Toddlers, Drop-In Storytime, Teen Advisory Group (TAG), Read with PAWS, Literacy Centers, Window Art, two books clubs (grades 1-2 and grades 3-5), special topics programs, and more.
YPL participates in the Museum Adventure Program and Explore More Illinois, which enable our patrons to receive free or discounted admission, parking, and gift shop purchases from cultural attractions in Illinois, including museums, cultural centers, zoos, aquariums, gardens, historical societies, park districts, and more.
